AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE FEES FOR THE JITNEY PASS, COMMUTER PARKING, THE JITNEY/PARKING COMBINATION PASS AND JITNEY DAILY FEE BEGINNING IN 2019

"Interpretive Statement"

This Ordinance will increase the Jitney Pass fee from $100.00 to $125.00, the commuter parking fee from $225 to $275, the Jitney/Parking Combination fee from $250.00 to $300.00, and the daily user fee shall remain $2.00 per ride beginning 2019.
WHEREAS, the Engineering, Public Works and Planning ("EPWP") Committee of the Township of Maplewood ("Township") has reviewed the revenue and expenses for the Jitney operations; and WHEREAS, the EPWP has made financial projections beginning in 2019; and WHEREAS, the EPWP has recommended that increases be made to the Jitney Pass, raising the fee from $100.00 to $125.00; and WHEREAS, the EPWP has recommended that increases be made in the commuter parking fee, raising the fee from $225.00 to $275.00, and WHEREAS, the EPWP has recommended an increase for Jitney/Parking Combination Pass from $250.00 to $300.00; and WHEREAS, the EPWP has recommended the daily per ride fee remain at $2.00. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Township Committee of the Township of Maplewood, County of Essex, State of New Jersey that: FIRST: 1. The fee for the Jitney Pass beginning January 1, 2019 (January 1 through December 31) shall be $125.00. Any Pass issued after June 30th of the pass/permit year shall cost 1/2 of the regular Pass Fee. 2. The fee for the commuter parking pass beginning January 1, 2019 (January 1 to December 31) shall be $275.00. 3. The fee for the Jitney/Parking Combination Pass beginning January 1, 2019 (January 1 through December 31) shall be $300.00. Any Pass issued after June 30th of the pass/permit year shall cost 1/2 of the regular Pass Fee. 4. The fee for a daily Jitney ride shall remain $2.00 per ride. 5. The fees established shall remain pending further determination of the Township Committee. SECOND: Chapter 155 of the Code of the Township of Maplewood entitled "Jitneys" shall be amended to reflect the aforementioned . Section 257 of the Code of the Township of Maplewood entitled "Vehicles and Traffic" (257-34)" shall be amended to reflect the aforementioned. All other sections shall remain unchanged. THIRD: Severability If any section, paragraph, subparagraph, clause or provision of this Ordinance shall be adjudged invalid, such adjudication shall apply only to the specific section, paragraph, subparagraph, clause or provision so adjudged and the remainder of the Ordinance shall be deemed valid and effective. FOURTH: Repeal of Prior Ordinances All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of any such inconsistencies. FIFTH: Effective Date This Ordinance shall take effect and after final passage and publication and as provided by law.
